General
What is Prum?
We’re a local tool-sharing marketplace that connects people who own tools with people who need tools. If you’ve got tools sitting idle in your garage, you can list them and earn extra money. If you need a tool for a job, you can rent one locally instead of buying.
How does tool renting work?
It’s simple:
- Tool owners list their tools online
- Renters search for what they need
- A booking is made for a set time
- The tool is picked up and returned locally
Everything is handled through the platform for ease and transparency.
Who can use the platform?
Anyone aged 16+ can:
- Rent tools
- List tools for hire
- Earn money from tools they already own
All users must create an account before renting or listing.
For Tool Owners (Earn Money)
What tools can I list?
You can list most household, DIY, trade, gardening and equipment tools, including:
- Power tools
- Hand tools
- Garden equipment
- Automotive tools
- Trade and construction tools and more
Tools must be safe, functional, and accurately described.
How much money can I earn?
You set your own rental prices.
Many owners earn regular side income from tools that would otherwise sit unused.
Earnings depend on:
- Tool demand
- Pricing
- Availability
- Location
Do I stay in control of my tools?
Yes. You control:
- Pricing
- Availability
- Who you rent to
- Approval of bookings (if enabled)
You’re never forced to rent your tool if you’re not comfortable.
What if my tool gets damaged?
Tools are expected to be returned in the same condition they were hired out.
If damage occurs, the platform’s policies and security measures help resolve the issue fairly between both parties.
We recommend:
- Taking photos before and after hire
- Clearly outlining usage instructions
- Using security deposits
For Renters (Hire Tools)
Why rent instead of buy?
Renting saves:
- Money
- Storage space
- Waste
Why buy a tool you’ll use once when you can hire one locally for a fraction of the cost?
How do I find a tool?
Use the search bar or browse by product category & trade category.
You can filter by:
- Tool type
- Location
- Price
How long can I hire a tool for?
Rental periods vary by listing and can include:
- Daily Hire
- Weekly Hire
The duration and price are shown before you book.
What happens if I return the tool late?
Late returns may result in additional fees as outlined in the listing.
Always communicate with the owner if delays occur — most issues can be resolved easily with good communication.
Safety & Trust
Are users verified?
Yes. Users are required to create an account, and certain verification steps may be required to increase trust and safety within the community.
Is payment secure?
All payments are processed securely through the platform via PayPal or Stripe.
What if there’s a dispute?
If an issue arises, the platform provides a clear dispute resolution process to help both parties reach a fair outcome.
