How Payments Work
Step 1
A renter books your tool
When a renter books your tool on Prum, they pay securely online at checkout using PayPal or Stripe (depending on their choice).
This may include:
- The hire fee
- Any applicable service fee
- A refundable security deposit (if you’ve set one)
Step 2
Payment is held securely
Payments are processed through PayPal or Stripe and held securely while the hire takes place.
This helps protect both you and the renter.
Step 3
Tool is returned
Once the hire period ends and the tool is returned in the agreed condition, the payment is completed according to Prum’s payment process.
Step 4
You get paid
Your earnings are sent directly to your connected PayPal or Stripe account.
No chasing payments.
No awkward conversations.
No cash handling.

PayPal allows renters to pay using:

Funds are paid into your PayPal account, where you can:
- Transfer to your bank
- Keep a balance
Use funds online
Setting Up Payments
To receive payments on Prum, you’ll need to:
- Create a free Prum account
- Connect either your PayPal or Stripe account (or both)
- Complete any required verification
This only takes a few minutes and is required to comply with payment provider rules.
When Do I Get Paid?
Payment timing can vary slightly depending on:
- The payment method used
- The completion of the hire
- Any disputes or issues
In most cases, payments are released after the hire is completed successfully.
You’ll always be able to see:
- Upcoming payments
- Completed payments
Payment history inside your Prum account.
Security Deposits (If Applicable)
Some tools require a refundable security deposit (bond).
- Deposits are clearly shown to renters before booking
- Deposits are handled securely through PayPal or Stripe
- If the tool is returned in good condition and on time, the deposit is released
If there’s an issue, Prum provides a clear process to help resolve it fairly.

Any service fees are:

- Automatically deducted

Do I Need to Handle Tax?
As a tool owner, you’re responsible for managing your own tax obligations related to earnings.
We recommend keeping records of:

- Related expenses (maintenance, repairs, etc.)
